From Ascot to Boyland

Magpie Creek homestead, is a beautifully renovated federation style house.  Originally the house was located in Ascot, Brisbane, just around the corner from the race track.  The house was called “Checkers” and was split into 4 self contained flats.  We always wanted to live in an old Queenslander, so when we bought our acreage at Boyland, we decided to buy an old house from Brisbane and bring the old charm and character down to our farm.

It’s not an easy task.  the roof had to come off, the house was cut into 4 pieces and then trucked down to the farm.  From the moment they took the roof

off, it started to rain, and even though we put tarps on the roof, it rained so much, we just ended up with huge pools of water on the roof.  Eventually, we took off the tarps, and just let the water in.  The inside of the house was ruined, so Steve had a huge job, stripping out all the linings and getting ready for the carpenters to come in and redo all the walls.

Our photos tell the story.  After 8 months of really hard work and a lot of bills – we have re-created a beautiful home to live in, and our visitors are always impressed with their accommodation.
